Army Target Pistol Championships 2015

The Army Pistol Championships were held this year in the Lord Roberts Centre and Melville 25m Range for 2015. This was attended by members of Army, Army Reserves and Navy.  The Championships consisted of the following  matches a 60 shot standard pistol, a 60 shot Sport Pistol and a 60 shot 10m Air.  The Inter-Services also shot an additional 60 shot Rapid Fire Pistol competition.  After a gruelling final the Army remained victorious winning the inter-services match with an aggregate of all 4 matches combined. The over all Target Pistol Champion for 2015 was WO2 Darren "Daz" Blackett (SASC).  The top 6 firers from the UK Armed Forces then went on to compete against Team GB in Standard and Sport Pistol.   The UK Armed Forces went on to win the Standard Pistol match but lost narrowly in the Sport pistol match to Team GB, resulting in Team GB winning overall.

Look forward to 5th October 2016 for the Army Target Pistol Championships and 8th October for the UK Armed Forces vs Team GB.  Changes for next year will include all matches as previously stated but with the new addition of womens integration into Rapid Fire Pistol.  This then will allow them to be selected for the UK Armed Forces Team vs Team GB.  Anyone interested in competing in 2016 Army Target Pistol Championships please contact AMTC representative Sgt Ian Jack.

Troops to Target Construct 10m Air Range at the AMTC

After being tasked with coaching the Army Target Pistol Team, Mr Michael Brown was faced with training the Army Team to compete against seasoned shooters yet to keep costs to a minimum in times of austerity.  He decided that building our own shooting range was the most cost effective and efficient way to progress.  With the support of the Army Marksmanship Training Centre (AMTC) and the hard work/manual labour of the Troops to Target they were able to construct a fully functioning 10m Air Range.  Listen to the BFBS interview for the full story.

Reserve Forces Service Pistol Championships 2015

The Reserve Forces kindly sent out an invitation to the Regular Army, RAF and Navy to attend the Reserve Forces Service Pistol Championships 2015.  The Championships consisted of the Army Operational Shooting Policy (AOSP) match 49 phase 2 and match 52.  This was shot on an individual basis however predetermined teams of 4 were selected prior to the event to have a team result. Army, Air force and Navy could only enter the Open category. The two teams of 4 from the Army were selected from both Troops to Target (T2T) and the Army Target Pistol (TP)Team.  Within T2T we had Capt Jim Russell who became the Reserve Pistol Champion but was also a member of the Army Team Alpha winning the overall Open Championships as a member of T2T.

Both the TP and T2T teams performed exemplary over the meeting.  This highlights the correlation between Target Pistol and Service Pistol.  To become more competent at service pistol all of the Army Team have become proficient in TP disciplines. The skills leant and taught at the Army Marksmanship Training Centre (AMTC) are transferable to service pistol bringing together grip, trigger control (albeit a different trigger weight ) and sighting.  For those interested in developing both their ability in TP disciplines and service pistol attendance on a TP Course is recommended. The details of the upcoming TP course dates can be found in the fixtures list.  Bespoke courses can also be run for specific shooting teams if required please contact Mr Michael Brown (Army Pistol Coach) at the AMTC at amtc.tpsect@gmail.com

Capt Barnaby Smith used our services recently "The 1 ATR shooting team found the training that we received from yourself and Mr Brown was hugely useful.  All our group sizes decreased dramatically over the morning and the level of understanding that we gained on how to handle and use the pistol was outstanding.  It was so refreshing to have an experience on the range that was genuinely useful and we all gained a lot from it.  Thank you so much for your time".
