Target Rifle Shooting
TARGET RIFLE
TARGET RIFLE
The sport of full-bore Target Rifle shooting (TR) is one of the ultimate tests of precision shooting at long range and the Army has a strong tradition in the discipline.
Shooting 7.62mm bolt-action, custom-built rifles out to a maximum distance of 1000 yards (900m) challenges not only a steady position but also the ability to judge wind as, especially at the longer ranges, this needs significant adjustment of sights to keep shots in the bulls-eye.
Target Rifle is also the only shooting sport that has a true team aspect to it. The Army Target Rifle Teams regularly shoot against the best clubs in the country and the other Services and this demands teamwork, combining fast accurate shooting and solid judgement by dedicated 'wind-coaches', watching for changes in the conditions and adjusting sights for the firers.
If you think that you would enjoy shooting at ranges in excess of half a mile, as an individual and in teams, then the Army Target Rifle Team would like to hear from you.
